4 DIY Exfoliating Scrubs For Softer Lips

Just like any other part of the skin, the lips are very important. However, lips are not given as much attention since they’re not as extensive as the rest of your skin. Lips need exfoliating too since the build-up of old, dead skin cells on your lips can make it dry and chapped. Thus, if you often find yourself with chapped lips that easily open up a wound, it may be time for lip exfoliation. You don’t have to spend much, though. In fact, all the ingredients you need to create an exfoliating and nourishing lip scrub may already be in your home. Here are some DIY exfoliating lip scrubs you can do to get softer lips.

  1. Sugar Lip Exfoliating Scrub

The lips are a sensitive area, giving it has thin layer of skin. This is why it is easily affected upon sudden change in temperature. They chap when it’s either too cold or too hot. Using this scrub mixture, you can remove the dead or chapped skin on your lips, revealing the softer and newer skin underneath. With this scrub, you will need a tablespoon of sugar (brown or white), a teaspoon of honey or olive oil/coconut oil (add a little more if needed, just enough to make the sugar clump together), a drop of vanilla (optional) and a small container. Mix all the ingredients together in the small container and rub the product on your lips enough to loosen the chapped skin on your lips. Let it sit for 1-2 minutes and gently wipe it off. Use lip balm after scrubbing. Use the scrub once a week or twice maximum if really needed.  It is best if not overused, which might cause irritation and damage to your lips.

  1. Lip Mask

The lip mask is a process to moisturize your lips. This can be either after scrubbing it with the lip scrub or not. People with dry and chapped lips can use the lip mask without the lip scrub if their lips are irritated by the scrub. It is highly advised that you scrub your lips before using the lip mask.

For the lip mask, you will only be needing two ingredients, a teaspoon of raw, organic honey and half a teaspoon of fresh pomegranate juice (optional). The pomegranate is optional, it adds a tinge of color to your lips after applying the mask, but it also has its moisturizing properties. Place the mixture on your lips and relax. Let it rest for 15 minutes. It is fine to reapply after the 15 minutes or if the honey dries off. It is best to let the honey be absorbed by your skin, this way it can really be moisturized.

  1. Coffee Lip Scrub

The coffee lip scrub is another lip scrub mixture that uses mostly coffee. For this mixture, you will be using a teaspoon of honey, a teaspoon of olive oil and 2 teaspoons of coffee grounds. Mix all together until it forms a paste-like consistency. Rub the mixture onto your lips, making sure to remove all the dead skins but slowly enough not to harm or irritate your lips. Leave the scrub for a few minutes and rinse it off. Moisturize with your lip balm of choice or petroleum jelly.
