Seven Natural Solutions for Taming Frizzy Hair

Hair is every woman’s crowning glory. It is also one of the first things that people notice when they look at you. That’s why it’s so frustrating when you’ve worked so hard to keep your hair in place in the morning just to watch it frizz out before the day ends. There are many reasons why your hair gets frizzy. It could be due to genes, damage, or humidity.

Dyeing your hair, using heat-inducing devices like straightening irons and blow-dryer frequently, or using products with harsh chemicals that can strip your hair of its proteins will further cause your hair to get frizzy. Luckily, there are simple, natural methods that can keep you from getting any more “bad hair day.” Here are seven natural home solutions for taming frizzy hair.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

After shampooing, rinse your hair with apple cider vinegar. Make sure you get every strand covered from root to tip then let it sit for about 30 seconds. Rinse with cool water then condition as usual. Apple cider vinegar will not only smooth out frizzy hair, it will give your hair a healthy shine too.

2. Carbonated Water

If you’re struggling with frizzy hair caused by humidity, carbonated water is the best solution for you. Carbonated water is made by dissolving carbon dioxide in water by subjecting it to pressure. It has a low pH that can efficiently help tame frizzy hair caused by humidity. Rinse your hair with carbonated water such as sparkling water, club soda, or soda water every after shampooing.

3. Olive Oil

Olive oil is a great natural moisturizer that can help moisture-retention for dry nails, skin, scalp, and hair. Try deep conditioning your hair with olive oil every week and you might just get the frizz-free hair you’ve been hoping for. Massage some olive oil into your hair starting from the scalp all the way to the tip. Wrap your hair with plastic wrap then leave for about 30 minutes. Rinse well afterwards. Don’t apply too much or you’ll risk getting greasy hair. To avoid this, you can apply the olive oil just on the ends of your hair or start on the mid-shaft to the ends.

4. Beer

Beer can help replenish the moisture in your hair in order to prevent it from getting unruly. The darker the beer, the better since dark beer provides the most moisture and nutrients. Simply rinse your hair with beer, making sure you coat it entirely, then let it sit for a couple of minutes. Afterwards, wash off with cold water.

5. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is another extraordinary natural moisturizer that can help get rid of dryness in any part of the body, including your hair. After shampooing and conditioning, comb your hair lightly to get rid of tangles. Then, put some coconut oil on your comb and comb it through your hair until the ends. Reapply the coconut oil on the comb if needed, just make sure you don’t apply too much or you’ll risk getting greasy hair. Alternatively, you can rub the oil between your hands then thread your fingers through your hair.

6. Avocado and Olive Oil Mask

Both avocado and olive oil have natural hydrating properties that go well together for deep conditioning your hair. Additionally, avocado is rich in fatty acids that are healthy for your hair and can help tame frizziness. Mash up the avocado then mix in a splash of olive oil. Apply the mask on your hair after shampooing, making sure you get every strand from root to tip, then let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour. Rinse thoroughly.

7. Banana and Yoghurt Mask

Bananas are rich in vitamins and nutrients that can help bring your hair back into a healthy state. Mash up one ripe banana or blend it until no lumps are left. Mix in one-fourth cup of yoghurt and two tablespoons each of honey and olive oil. Apply the mask all over your hair and scalp. Cover your hair with plastic wrap or shower cap then leave for 30 minutes to an hour. Rinse well then wash your hair as usual.
