Twelve Ways To Use Petroleum Jelly

Perhaps one of the most versatile products available in the market is Petroleum jelly, or what is commonly called by its generic brand name, Vaseline. Petroleum Jelly can serve a huge variety of purposes ranging from beauty, health-care, and item maintenance. It’s been around for about 150 years and for a good reason too. It’s affordable, convenient, and extremely versatile. To give you an idea, here are twelve ways you can use Petroleum jelly.

1. Removing make-up.

Petroleum jelly is smooth enough that your make-up will slide right off your skin. It’s especially useful for those pesky eye make-ups that take forever to remove when you’d rather just go straight to bed. Simply coat your eyelids, or cheeks, or lips with the jelly then gently wipe it off using a tissue or cotton.

2. Soothe cracked heels, elbows, and dry hands.

One of the many downsides of wearing the wrong shoes is developing calloused, cracked heels. It can keep you uncomfortable throughout the day and may embarrass you too much to wear open-heeled shoes. To soothe cracked heels, apply a generous amount of Petroleum jelly on the affected area before going to sleep then put on some cotton socks and leave it throughout the night. It’ll feel softer and smoother by morning. You can do the same with your hands, by using gloves instead, or your elbows and knees, by wrapping it with a soft fabric and securing with safety pins.

3. Moisturizer.

You might think that applying and leaving Petroleum jelly on your skin will induce the growth of acne and pimples. On the contrary, Petroleum jelly is actually non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t cause blocked pores which is the usual cause of breakouts. Additionally, it’s great at locking in moisture to your skin. Just apply a thin layer of the jelly all over your face as you would with your moisturizer.

4. Lip Balm.

Many people swear by Petroleum jelly as a lip balm. It’s great at holding and locking in moisture to your lips, leaving them feeling soft and smooth and undeniably moisturized. Simply apply on your lips before going to bed and see the wonderful effects by morning.

5. Heal wounds.

The ability of Petroleum jelly to lock in moisture on your skin makes it a great remedy for healing minor wounds. This is because moisture is necessary for the wound-healing process and so using Petroleum jelly can speed up the process.

6. Keeping cuticles healthy.

Just work some Petroleum jelly into your cuticles twice a day to keep your nails and cuticles healthy. It will prevent hangnails while keeping your nails strong and healthy.

7. Eyelash treatment.

Many people use Petroleum jelly as a technique for lengthening and thickening their eyelashes. Just apply some jelly on your eyelashes before going to bed every night and see the results yourself.

8. Alternative mascara.

You can use Petroleum jelly to add volume and thickness to your eyelashes temporarily. Apply a small amount on your lash line and lashes to simulate long and thick lashes. Keep using and it might make your lashes longer and thicker permanently.

9. Make your perfume last longer.

Petroleum jelly is an effective way to make the scent of your perfume last longer. Dab small amounts of the jelly onto your pulse points, such as behind your ears, your wrists, and behind your knees, before spraying your perfume on the jelly. The Petroleum jelly will absorb the scent and keep it lingering for longer.

10. Highlight cheekbones and eyelids.

Petroleum jelly makes a great alternative highlighter if you don’t have one on-hand. Dab a small amount on your cheekbones, brow bones, and eyelids to get the same highlighter effect that attracts light while contouring your features.

11. Keep unruly eyebrows in place.

Keep your eyebrows from getting unruly by sliding a tiny amount of Petroleum jelly on it from the inside out. It will keep your eyebrow in place throughout the day.

12. Exfoliating lips.

Using Petroleum jelly to exfoliate your lips is both effective and gentle. Simply dab your lips with jelly and scrub it gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush. It will leave your lips soft, smooth, and moisturized.
