Going shopping for babies can be incredibly exciting and fun. The problem though is that babies outgrow everything pretty quickly. In just a few months, you’ll have to put away all the first things you bought, including clothes, socks, mittens, bonnets, and of course, the crib. Some prefer to donate their child’s old items while others become extremely sentimental towards these things. You can store the old clothes in a box, but what about the crib? If it’s hard for you to let the crib go, then just turn it into something useful. This way, you won’t have to throw it away and it won’t uselessly take up some space. Here are ten awesome ways you can repurpose old cribs.
Once your kid has grown out of their crib, you can turn it into a playhouse that’s appropriate for their age. Turn the crib upside down then nail it on the wall and place the mattress below it.
Remove the guard rail of the side facing away from the wall then place your kid’s toys inside and above it.
2. Recreation table
If your kid has started going to school, it would be a good idea to turn their old crib into their study or recreation table. Remove one of the side rails and remove the mattress then decorate the table any way you want. You can add a small storage shelf on the bottom of the crib or you can paint the surface with chalkboard paint so the kids can write on it freely. Add some chairs to finish it off.
Remove one of the side rails as well as the top and bottom rails of a crib to turn it into a bench. Add some wooden pegs to increase the height of the bench and paint it with any colour you want.
Turning an old crib into a mini-sofa is a great way to have a comfortable place to sit in outdoors. Start by removing one of the side rails then put some mattress and some cushions on the crib. Throw in some pillows and you’ll have a place to enjoy your evening tea.
You can hang the rail of the crib vertically then use some hooks to hang up materials on the rail. You can hang up small containers for pens and pencils and you can even hang up a small rack to hold paint and other craft materials.
If you don’t have any space outdoors to set up a garden then make a small one using a crib. All you really need to do is add a planter on the crib to hold your plants. Make sure you only plant small plants such as herbs since the size and depth of the soil won’t accommodate large plants with big roots.
7. Day Bed
Remove one of the side rails of the crib then add some pillows and stuff toys to make it into a cozy day bed. You or the kids can then use this comfortable little spot for reading or relaxing. You can even paint the crib so it matches the rest of the room.
8. Toy Chest
If you’re handy with tools, with just a few adjustments, you can turn an old crib into a toy chest. This way, your kid will be able to make use of the crib even if he’s already too big for it.
9. Wagonimage source
Turn an old crib into a wagon by adding some wheels and a handle on it. This way, your kid will have something to play with. This is especially great for little girls as they can use the crib wagon for their dolls.
You can utilize an old crib by turning it into your desk. Add a glass surface on top of the crib then remove one of the side rails of the crib and use it as an extra shelf instead.
