Homemade Gift Idea: DIY Brown Sugar Body Scrub

A lot of healthy diets teach people to stay away from sugars.  So instead of raiding your cupboard for a batch of sugary treats, why not consider using it topically? The use of brown sugar as skin exfoliator is hard to beat, especially when it comes to benefits. Plus, you can always sneak-in a quick taste while you treat yourself to your very own home spa treatment.

With expensive skin exfoliators being sold at market counters, people may think that keeping up with a smooth and healthy-looking skin can be very hard on one’s purse. The good news is, not all exfoliators are created equally expensive. Fact is, brown sugar is very affordable and a bag of it can last for a number of bath sessions. Not only will it keep your wallet happy, it will also make your bathroom smelling deliciously luscious.

Salt Scrubs vs. Brown Sugar Scrubs

Salt scrubs, though also great for skin, contain bigger grains and might cause microscopic tears on the dermis. Since brown sugar has relatively smaller particles and are much finer, they are considered a much gentler alternative to salt scrubs for exfoliating purposes.  It can also be used for the face and other sensitive parts of the body because it is softer than regular sugar. It is has softer properties alright, but it is strong enough to slough away your dead skin cells which can pave the way to you having a healthier and glowing skin complexion.

Brown sugar body scrubs can be a great addition to one’s bathroom essentials. If you’re the DIY type of person, you can easily make your own brown sugar scrub for your own use or for giveaways.  Again, a brown sugar body scrub is nourishing to the skin, not to mention it being incredibly frugal and easy to make. Seriously, this project takes minutes to finish and it’s highly likely that you already have all the ingredients sitting in your kitchen pantry.

What You’ll Need:

  1. 1 cup packed brown sugar
  2. ½ cup of coconut oil
  3. 1 tsp. Cinnamon
  4. 1 tsp. Vitamin E
  5. drops of vanilla (optional)

What You Need to Do:

Get a bowl and combine your cinnamon and brown sugar. Add the coconut oil, vitamin E and the vanilla drops. Mash well with a spoon and combine completely. Transfer to an airtight container.

See? It is so easy to create! What was provided above was just a basic recipe and you can customize it however you want to. You may add different spices, or substitute the coconut oil for either olive oil or almond oil. You may also use white sugar instead of brown.  Try adding a bit food coloring should you decide to use white sugar to give your scrub a different hue. Really, just use your imagination and have fun with it.

  1. Place it on a mason jar.
  2. Create your very own custom label
